This year’s Transform Africa Summit, held in Kigali, Rwanda, on 10th – 12th May 2017, has Inmarsat showcasing its smart city flagship project.

LoRaWAN flagship project uses the Velos IoT Nomad IoT Platform

Velos IoT has delivered a proof of concept for smart urban solutions working with Inmarsat. The flagship project in Kigali benefits from using the Velos IoT Nomad platform. As a result, this enables IoT connectivity around cellular, Wi-Fi and LoRaWAN networks. Also, it provides Smart Urban Solutions that can provision, manage, invoice and automate.

Most noteworthy, it uses Velos IoT’s unique IoT connectivity, extending into provisioning, monitoring. Along with diagnosing third-party applications and devices. Furthermore, it enables organisations to deploy IoT applications on a large scale.

The potential uses the Kigali’s smart city infrastructure are limitless. As a result of showcasing real use-cases, it is now helping to improve the lives of over 700,000 residents.

New IoT smart city initiatives include environmental monitoring for air quality sensors. Also, smart buses are equipped with satellite internet. Thus helping remote communities with internet connectivity. Furthermore, smart farming initiatives are being deployed in Rwanda, providing long term benefits.

IoT technology opens-up new possibilities beyond traditional M2M communications. Thus, enabling meaningful interactions between people and their environments.

Connectivity is a vital part of the success of this project. With LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi and Cellular co-exist together to provide a network ecosystem. Therefore, utilising the proper connectivity for the right IoT application.

Velos IoT Nomad Unique platform building IoT solutions based on Connectivity.

The flagship project in Kigali uses the Velos IoT Nomad platform for connectivity.  As a result, enabling the management of LoRaWAN networks, Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.

Velos IoT provides Smart City solutions that can provision, manage, invoice and automate. Furthermore, the unique IoT connectivity uses over 600 roaming agreements.

Most noteworthy, the Velos IoT SIMs use open roaming technology which is software free—as a result, providing resilient connectivity at a competitive price point. Furthermore, the Velos IoT Platform API integration allows users to construct and provision. Also, bill and provide real-time monitoring of complete IoT solutions.

Integration with the Nomad IoT Platform enables a “single pane of glass”. Consequently, this gives total visibility to hybrid estates. Velos IoT supports the platform with robust support that’s flexible and cost-effective. Hence, Velos IoT offers the first choice for Smart Cities that need full support.

The IoT for smart cities enables cities to stay securely connected. It helps overcome city challenges to improve quality of life and boost economic growth. Thus, transforming cities into more eco-sustainable spaces.

Smart HVAC Systems: How IoT Cuts Energy Costs and Downtime
A smart HVAC system is a heating, ventilation and air conditioning setup with IoT sensors, distributed control boards and network connectivity built in. It lets you monitor and control temperature, humidity, airflow and energy use remotely — and flags faults before equipment fails. The main gains are lower energy bills, fewer emergency call-outs and easier regulatory reporting.

eUICC vs. eSIM: What’s the Real Difference (and Why It Matters for Your IoT Fleet)
eUICC vs. eSIM: What’s the Real Difference (and Why It Matters for Your IoT Fleet)
If you’ve spent any time researching connectivity for connected devices, you’ve probably seen “eSIM” and “eUICC” used as if they mean the same thing. They don’t — and for anyone building or scaling an IoT deployment, that distinction isn’t just semantics. It affects how you provision devices, how flexible you are with carriers, and how much manual work your team ends up doing down the line. At Velos IoT, we get asked about this constantly, so let’s clear it up properly.

What are the benefits of a Fixed Private IP SIM card?
While ordinary mobile SIMs are built for one-way outbound data, an IoT SIM card with a Fixed IP opens up a continuous, two-way channel. This ensures your devices aren’t just sending data to the cloud, but are always reachable for real-time remote access, troubleshooting, and control. Static VS Dynamic IP…
